Jennifer Kent’s ferocious, harrowing and essential follow up to cult horror movie The Babadook (2015) is horrifying in a very different way. Aisling Francioisi is incredible in the title role of the 19th-century Irish immigrant who takes relentless revenge against the British soldiers responsible for atrocities visited upon her and her family. A very tough watch but no film before has ever had the honesty and courage to lay bare the truth about the brutality of British colonialism in Australia. A harrowing masterpiece.
